San Francisco discopunk trio brings their genre-mashing material to the city's iconic indie showcase, riding a wave of national radio momentum
San Francisco, CA, March 2026 -- The Crooked Stuff will perform at Popscene at the Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco on Friday, April 17, 2026, supporting Forrest Day and Treasures, and releasing their new single, "Sci-Fi Radio," on the same night.
"Sci-Fi Radio" arrives as The Crooked Stuff are hitting their stride. Since the release of their EP Darkphased in September 2025, the San Francisco trio has logged over 1,700 tracked spins across 47 radio stations in 21 US markets, earning NACC chart positions in Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, Chicago, Philadelphia, and New York, alongside regular rotation on the Bay Area's Live 105 SoundCheck series. They've also been invited in for live in-studio sessions and interviews at KPCW at Sundance, KVMR, KRCB and KZFR. Earlier this year, they performed three shows at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.
Popscene, the long-running SF indie night curated by Live 105's Aaron Axelsen, is one of the city's most credentialed showcases. Artists like The Killers, Billie Eilish, Flume, Alt-J, Calvin Harris, Muse, Vampire Weekend, and The 1975 have performed at Popscene in the past. For The Crooked Stuff, this is a hometown show with stakes: a new song release, a national radio story building behind them, and a room full of people who make waves in their local scene and industry.
The Crooked Stuff, Tom Gorton (vocals), John Robin Varn (keys/synths), and Nick DeRyss (drums), make what they call "existential discopunk for the people": body moving, life exploring, and rooted in post-punk, electronic, industrial, funk, and soul. Their sound has drawn organic comparisons to Devo, Talking Heads, The Prodigy, TV On The Radio, LCD Soundsystem and more.
"Sci-Fi Radio" will be available on all platforms April 17. The April 17 Popscene show is at the Rickshaw Stop, 155 Fell St, San Francisco. Tickets are on sale now.
